Strategy 12 -- A quick update
A user requested variation to Strategy 12. We drop individual contracts in favor of trading a continuous contract so it's easier to test the strategy on the data you trade with. More info on changes.
Disclaimer: the following post is an organized representation of my research and project notes. It doesn’t represent any type of advice, financial or otherwise. Its purpose is to be informative and educational. Backtest results are based on historical data, not real-time data. There is no guarantee that these hypothetical results will continue in the future. Day trading is extremely risky, and I do not suggest running any of these strategies live.
The strategy variation has already been updated to the GitHub at:
Strategy 12 CCB
The purpose of this variation is for users to be able to import their own data (via csv) into RealTest and test the strategy on the data that they would actually trade with. This is a pretty crucial step if you ever plan on trading any systems live. Futures data is inherently fickle when it comes to continuous contracts and calculations between providers.
Important
Today is the last day that monthly subscribers will have access to the GitHub. You can check out the Chat Threads (← no clue if that link actually goes to the HGT chat or not) for information regarding the changes. Here’s a quick recap:
A new tier called “Red Team” (spoiler, its a founding member annual subscription) has been added as a subscription option.
After midnight tonight, the only people who will have access to the GitHub repo will be Annual Subscribers and Red Team Members.
Annual subscribers will only have access to the GitHub for the duration of their subscription. When it renews or cancels, access will be revoked to the GitHub. This means that if you upgrade today, you will have a full year acces to the GitHub before having to upgrade to Red Team.
What will not change:
All posts will still have all the code needed for them. If I use a custom function, I will either link to the post where I discussed it, or I will provide the source code in the post.
Monthly and Annual subscription prices. Annual subscribers will still get two months for free.
What are the benefits of a Red Team membership:
First, because it sounds cool. Always be cool.
I chose the name because being a retail trader often feels like the market isn’t designed in our favor. It seems that commercial firms have the upper hand. Bad segue. A red team is created to test the security of a facility (or thing) and/or opfor (just another term for it) is meant to provide realistic tactical simulation to improve military personell performance on the battle field. That’s how we have to think, as retail traders. We don’t have the knowledge or the capability to compete, so we need to find weaknesses and exploit them in order to be competitive.
Access to the GitHub for as long as your subscription is active.
Access to exlcusive chat content or live trading chats (I’ve been experimenting with journaling my trades as I try and get back into manual trading).
Access to any other perks I decide to create for the community. An example of this would be something like the private forum idea.
Why all this change?
I’m a fan of transparency and honesty, so I will tell you. Managing members between Substack and the Github is a tedious manual task that makes my day harder. It is sometimes time consuming, especially if I am confirming information. Because of this manual operation, I was planning on scrapping the GitHub entirely. Since I supply the code directly in my posts, this seemed like it would be fine.
Then, I had a lot of subscribers reach out and mentioned that they really enjoyed having access to a shared GitHub repo. During this time, I was also experimenting with using a different platform, like Patreon, to manage members for a private forum where members could share code and research and access some features that are a bit lacking on Substack.
Now, I’ve come full circle and realized I can have my cake and eat it too. Instead of branching out from the Substack ecosystem, I’m leaning into it. The chat feature is just a hair away from being a forum, so it’s good enough for now. I am sure it will see updates as Susbtack matures. I can also add a specialized pricing tier (the founding member/Red Team subscription) for annual subscribers who want to have access to the extras (GitHub, exclusive chat thread, and anything else I come up with).
All of this allows me to keep my monthly subscription price and annual prices the same. I don’t like models that constantly change or raise prices. If you don’t wish to change subscriptions, you don’t have to. All the code for all posts will be available on each post. All historical posts will be accessible. The only thing that goes away is GitHub access.
Unless you are an annual subscriber before midnight tonight. If you are, you will retain GitHub access. Or, you can grab a Red Team membership early and help support the HGT newsletter so we can continue to learn, grow, and develop strategies and research at faster paces.
Transparent but still shameless plug complete.
Here is the simplified version of Strategy 12 for anyone who wants to import their own data into the file and test it:

The rest of this post is for paid subscribers. Paid subscribers will have access to all paid publications, strategies, code associated with posts, and access to the HGT chat room. Red Team members will have access to the community GitHub and more.
